When you care for dogs, the biggest compliment you can get from someone is for them to ask you to care for their dog. Even with dogs in rescue, they are reliant on you to do the right thing for them. Imagine, some years ago, being asked to care for a puppy that wasn’t expected to live but deserved a fair chance as much as any other dog. This happened to me. Of course the answer was yes and with a little trepidation, this tiny tiny puppy, no bigger than my hand, was dropped off with me while her owner took a very quick break that had been planned for some time.
My husband and I took turns at staying up with her and feeding her, every day worried that we might lose her, but we gave her owner updates – frequently, and were delighted to be able to hand her over in one piece and thriving.
This little dot has grown into an amazing girl with no hint at her being the runt of the litter and though she’s not mine, she will always hold a special place in my heart.
